The Parish Council has a membership of 15 Councillors. In addition to its responsibility for environmental work within the Parish, the Council works in partnership with the Notts County Council, Bassetlaw District Council, Advice Bassetlaw, the Police and other statutory organisations providing community services within the village.
The Council’s offices are located at the Civic Centre on Oakham Drive, and two part-time officers, the Clerk to the Parish Council Peter Goulding, and an Administrative Assistant Jo morris are employed to manage the Council’s activities and to ensure that decisions of the Council are implemented.
The Council is resourced through a Parish Council Tax which is established on an annual basis. Currently the Council Tax ensures the annual maintenance of most highway grass verges throughout the village in addition to ground works undertaken at the Civic Centre, the Youth Centre, War Memorial, Lambert Gardens on the A60 highway and the small “milestone” garden also adjacent to the A60 Highway. Maintenance of the Churchyard and Burial Ground at St John’s Church is also undertaken by the Parish Council.
The Civic Centre on Oakham Drive, and the Youth Centre premises on Lawn road are owned and maintained by the Parish Council. The Civic Centre is an established Charity which is managed by a Board of Trustees, a Centre Manager and other part-time staff. The Youth Centre is managed by a Voluntary Committee along with a Centre Manager and part time staff who are employed by Notts County Council. The Parish Council has member representation on both the Board of Trustees at the Civic Centre and on the Youth Centre Voluntary Management Committee.
The Parish Council has an excellent record in working in partnership with voluntary and statutory organisations in providing and supporting local community services. Over the years, substantial funding obtained from national lottery and other external sources have been responsible for establishing quality parish assets at the Civic Centre and the Youth Centre.
The Parish Council is keen to encourage its community to become more involved in the provision of services. Each of the Council’s meetings which are held on the second Tuesday of each month at the Civic Centre has an agenda item specifically for members of the public to raise any issues which relate to the local community. Members of the public are most welcome to attend.
